Another way of life

SHAG’s “Autumn’s Come Undone” at the Corey Helford Gallery opens this Saturday, November 21st at 8pm. The press release has me intrigued “For the past decade, Agle’s iconic environments and playful narratives have sublimely captured California cool, mid-century modern design and lifestyles of the retro glamourati. His new exhibition “Autumn’s Come Undone” represents a turning point for Agle, adopting darker themes and a deeper palette to explore life’s excesses. “Something happened to me in the last year - call it an unexpected change-of-heart, if you like, but a lot of the unfettered hedonism my artwork espoused has begun to catch up with me,” Agle explains. Somber hues of okra, burnt oranges, and delicate grays, replace Agle’s signature acid brights, and as his subjects near the autumn of their lives, they venture away from suburban comforts to embrace a simpler, more authentic way of life.”

Kelly McKernan is an artist and illustrator from Atlanta, Georgia who has, since her youth, possessed the ambition to be a full time creator. She is a graduate of Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. While her training was in traditional painting, her focus has been in mixed media, specifically in combining film photography and advanced darkroom techniques with aqueous media painting. Over the last two years, Kelly has received local, national, and international recognition for her unique work, has been printed in a number of major publications, and is currently showing with several notable galleries. She is also a member of the Cheap Paper artist collective.

Kelly's work is defined by internal struggle in its many forms through personal growth. She illustrates various situations for her female protagonists to interact with through symbolic elements in vague settings. These scenes often comment on the operating consequences of idealism and fantasy due to naivety and youth with two opposing forces at work: natural inclination versus cognitive reasoning. These rival dualities are further represented by stylistic differences and the contrasting mediums of photography and painting. There is deeply personal meaning to be found as the multi-layered struggles depicted in her current body of work reflect her interests and concerns as a growing woman with a penchant for idealism.

Iluminador de poemas

About the artist.
Nod Young's works have travelled all around the world, always invited to be part of any exhibition dedicated to Chinese young art and graphic design. Prolific and a workaholic, Nod Young is also the Co-Founder and Creative Director of ultra hip Khaki Creative & Design agency. Light years from this, Nod Young is a follower of Buddhism and believes that creativity can be derived from its teachings. The «Puti Tree» series is a typographic interpretation of two poems quoted from the original zen classic, The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch, that dates back almost to 1500 years ago. The poems teach us not to believe all that which exists, not even the reflection of ourselves in a mirror. We have to learn to overcome the rules and boundaries of our existence in order to reach a state of Zen, unfettered by the perceived limitations of life.

Omnia mea mecum porto

Maxim Zhestkov

Maxim Zhestkov is a 23-year-old director, video artist, industrial, motion and graphics designer, that bases much of his work on his dreams and fantasies. “Any composition needs to begin with one or two main elements. The smaller the elements, the greater number of them there should be. You need to start with one or two main ideas and gradually build up the smaller elements until the space becomes rich with life.” Maxim also believes in bringing together incompatible elements. His ideas are the result of combining two or three stencils, and using existing patterns to form new ones. He lives and works in Russia, in the city of Ulyanovsk, located on two rivers flowing in two different directions. "I heard there are not many places like that. I think it gives our city some additional energy." It was at the age of 6 he got his first computer ZX Spectrum, where he spent day drawing huge detailed illustrations. He was fond of playing video games which he feels probably influenced his biggest desire towards design and CG. He pursued a degree in architecture at University but eventually realized it wasn't really for him when what he loved was to experiment. He felt that architecture would limit his ambitions so he switched to the faculty of graphics design, where he is currently studying.

Colored keyboard

sticker set: We used to learn our alphabets by reading those classroom banners that associated each letter with an animal or object. These days as kids become increasingly computer dependent at an early age I thought it was about time to adapt an old method to a new medium.

From cultural icons to greek mythology, this keyboard sticker set will advance the alphabetical knowledge of any child, or adult.
